Tom Mayes signs for Waringstown

We are delighted to announce that Tom Mayes has joined the club.

The South African-born all-rounder, who had played club cricket for North Down since 2021, is the fourth new arrival at The Lawn in the close season, following new overseas professional Bilawal Bhatti, the return of batsman James Hall and young wicketkeeper Matthew Halliday.

Mayes, 23, qualifies for Ireland through his grandmother, and has had a busy winter on the representative scene, first impressing on the Emerging Ireland squad’s tour of the West Indies where he hit a half-century in a List A match and took a 10-wicket haul in the final first class match. He was also part of the Ireland Wolves squad that toured Nepal.

Mayes was an important member of the Northern Knights team that won a domestic interprovincial double last summer.

Waringstown captain Greg Thompson said: “We’re delighted to welcome Tom to Waringstown. It’s been great to see him enjoy success this winter with the Wolves/Academy tours and we feel that he’s a great fit for us both on and off the field.

“I’m excited to see him bowling at The Lawn as he’s a proven performer with the ball, and I’m confident that he’ll contribute with the bat as he’s shown plenty of talent and power while playing at North Down.”

Tom Mayes said:  “I’m very excited to join the the club. It comes as an exciting challenge and I’m very much looking forward to it. Hopefully I can add and contribute to some good performances and hopefully some silverware by the end of the season.”
